Today let’s go back to the conversation about the passenger compartment, but in order not to miss the new issue just subscribe right now to the telegram channel.
We have received a lot of comments with questions about the passenger compartment and whether we will make it like the original.
So we decided to talk about it today. And at the end of the episode you will find a nice bonus. We are announcing our new project. In a little while we will make a new episode and an article about it.
So, considering the dashboard. In sober fact it is already completed and we will not be able to show you the process of its creation in real time.
But we took pictures and filmed something. This information would be presented later in the article so you could see the main stages of the process.
We had two ideas of making a dashboard. The first one was to order a dashboard in the same place where we bought the lamba body. There they would make all of it of fiberglass.
But after that there could arise a problem, because it would need to be spliced with the factory-supplied dashboard of Eclipse. In this case we would have to shred and throw away the half of it. Therefore, we refused this idea and chose the second variant.
We took the board from Eclipse and just styled it in accordance with the Lamborghini Gallardo board.
Since we made this dashboard on the basis of the Eclipse, then it turned out to be as functional and practical as the factory version.
The dashboard can be disassembled in parts; we will do it now to show you its insides.
This is how our dashboard looks like from inside.
Its foundation is from Eclipse. Here we cut off everything that was not needed, for it could not affect our operation.
All parts are glued by the glass sealer. It sticks together things very well. Plus, we riveted everything with metal spacers.
And sealed the excess plastic with the self-supporting foam so that it did not rattle.
This is the place where the safety bags will be installed. Also here we have pipes for the stove which are already set.
The windshield blow-off system was altered too. We built such metal faucets.
Here, we muffled it from the one side and brought to the both sides.
Putting it all together
And now Igor and I will install it on the car and you will see how it all looks in its place.
After the dashboard is installed on the car, we can see that there are voids on its sides and in front of it.
In order to somehow close and improve the edges of the dashboard, we have made such linings.
They are also made of fiberglass, installed and clamped with clips.
We also have such linings in front of the dashboard, which are also attached to the clips.
They can be removed to get to the compartments that give access to the engine.
We also took into account the thickness of the skin and that’s why all the gaps on the dashboard were made of 2 mm thick so that after the reupholstery all the details would fall into their places.
After making the side plugs for the dashboard, we produced the internal linings for the windscreen pillar.
But we haven’t done the fixings for them yet and temporarily fix them with the Scotch tape.
How it was
In truth, the process of creating a dashboard was very long and time consuming.
We had a foundation from Eclipse. We foamed, polished and measured out everything according to proportions.
Then, we glazed the foam with construction joint filler. The entire filler was leveled, and planes and surfaces were corrected.
After that we grounded it and removed the matrix.
From the matrix, we made fiberglass overlays, which eventually were spliced with the Eclipse base.
Now let’s proceed with the inside part of the passenger compartment.
The steering wheel
The steering wheel. At first we wanted to make it ourselves, but then we found a steering wheel from the Audi S-line that matches the Lamborghini Gallardo.
Audi S-line also has steering wheels with an inclined bottom and a central round pillow. Only the logos are different.
As it was stated in the third article, we needed to change the top of the door skin.
What for? In order to bring it just to these side plugs to avoid the big gaps.
We also changed the position of the air deflectors. Eclipse has two of them here.
And two there. One from this side, and one from another.
It was removed from here. We plugged the pipe, moved the third deflector and placed it here in the middle.
We also altered pipes to make three come out of two.
The center console
The center console. We have an old tape recorder set here.
We will change it with a new one, and now we installed this one in order to designate the dimensions of this opening.
We installed a proprietary Gallardo socket with toggle switches below the radio. We modeled and printed it on a 3D printer.
Then we will paint and grind it, and set the switches.
Climate control panel
In this lining the climate control panel from Audi will be installed below the toggle switches.
It is exactly the same as on the Lamborghini Gallardo.
We will make the dashboard of two colors. The top of it will be black and the bottom is white.
There will be a contour. Above the contour, we will place this Lamborghini inscription. We will cover it with chrome first and then we will install it.
Central part of the board
The dashboard. We have made such a screen, which becomes a lining on the screen from Eclipse.
In other words, the central part of the Eclipse board is removed and we can get the entire dashboard.
We will not change the dashboard itself. We will take it to processing to make it stylized in accordance with the Lamborghini board.
Lining on the gearshift
Also, we still had to readjust the lining on the gearshift.
At Eclipse, it bends downhill towards the dashboard, while at Gallardo it goes in the direction of these arcs.
It was almost impossible somehow to cut the lining from Eclipse to raise the corner.
Therefore, we had to remove the matrix from it and make another lining, similar to the lining that we have already installed through the spacer at the angle we needed.
In the third series, we went to the reupholstery workshop, where we showed and explained the way in which the seats would be tightened.
A few days ago, Nikolai finished working with the backseat and brought it to us. We have not unfolded it yet, so let us now open the film and see how it looks.
Wow! I like the new look of this backseat.
Unfortunately, the front seats are not ready yet. After Nicholai finishes them, we will bring a dashboard for him for reupholstery too.
Then we will issue the last episode about the passenger compartment and show how everything looks as an assembly.
Glazing for replica
There were also a lot of comments related to the glazing of the car. We turned to the company that manufactures auto glass. We ordered their visit and they should come to us from day to day and make measurements of the windshield and quarter lights. There is nothing complicated in it. But there are nuances as for the manufacture of door glasses.
Since we have changed the angle of inclination of the windshield base, we have changed the size of the door glass. We now need to increase it from above while retaining its bend, so that the glass in a raised position will fit snugly against the rubber seals of the roof.
Now we will raise the roof and show how it works, and raise the glass so that you can see the piece of glass we lack. We will also show what we plan to do with the roof.
OK, let’s do it!
Well, as you can see now, we have changed the angle of the windshield in this way. Now we lack such a piece of side window.
Since the door glass must be tempered, and there are no companies in St. Petersburg that manufacture the bendy tempered glass, we have to send the glass to Moscow.
Removing the roof
As you can see, the car with the roof closed does not look very good.
This is all due to the fact that the roof of the Eclipse looks like the roof of a Wolf’s car from the “Nu pogodi” cartoon movie. The reason is these ribs. We need to lower them.
To do this, we need to remove the tonneau cover and see the frame of the roof. Then we will understand what can be done to it.
We should unscrew here. And here too.
So, now let’s fold behind and we will see.
I thought everything would be worse.
Here the whole mechanism goes on the glass. Just arcs on the spacers, it is like a tent. We should cut and bend a little bit, and there you are.
So, we removed the tonneau cover and got to the roof frame. Technically, there is nothing difficult with lowering the arcs there. We just need to cut and lower them a little.
After that, we will put on the old tonneau cover, measure the patterns and, using these patterns, make a tonneau cover for the new lowered roof. But we will do this in another series, so as not to miss it subscribe to the telegram channel now.
Well, as promised we will show you the announcement of our new project. Its series will be released very soon.
That’s all for today.
